MEASUREMENT OF GRINDING WHEEL SURFACE TOPOGRAPHY USING ELECTRO-PNEUMATIC TURBULENCE AMPLIFIER SYSTEM J. FAZLUR RAHMAN* and V. RADHAKRISHNAN* (Received 24 October 1979) Abstract--In precision grinding, the topographical characteristics of the grinding wheel surface, plays an important role on the wheel performance and on the workpiece roughness produced.
Blunt et al. measured the surface topography of two grinding wheels with different grit sizes (60# and 100#) by a three-dimensional (3D) stylus-based surface profilometer equipped with a 2 μm tip radius stylus and proposed the optimum criteria of sampling interval for grinding wheel surface topography.

On-machine Measurement of the Grinding Wheels 3D Surface Topography Using a La ser Displacement Sensor Yongcheng Pan, Qingliang Zhao, Bing Guo*
A method of non-contact, on-machine measurement of three dimensional surface topography of grinding wheels’ whole surface was developed in this paper, focusing on an electroplated coarse-grained diamond grinding wheel. The measuring system consists of a Keyence laser displacement sensor, a Keyence controller and a NI PCI-6132 data acquisition card.
1.1 Objectives. The aim of this research is to measure the surface texture of grinding wheels for the purpose of differentiating between wheel composition (abrasive, bond) and degree of wear (dressed, ground). 1.2 Rationale. A grinding wheel’s surface texture has a strong influence upon its grinding performance.
